On the move...

Row 1: (left to right) master bedroom | removing wallpaper | our old place now vacant
Row 2: our fabulous help (aka my aunt, grandma and mom) | new house | impromptu visit from friend
Row 3: who doesn't need a frozen yogurt break (first two photos) | installing new locks
I know I have been quite silent on the blog... somehow between moving and not having internet in the new place has prevented me from posting more often! I will try to do better with taking photos, but here are just a few shots from the past week or so. Let's just say I'm glad to finally have all of our boxes and furniture moved, but of course, now comes the real challenge of unpacking. We're very fortunate to have had my mom, aunt, and grandma who came to help clean and set up the kitchen (plus remove wallpaper from the half bath!). We're definitely blessed to have such wonderful family and friends that have made moving so much easier.

This next week we'll be on vacation, but I'll try to keep my camera nearby to capture the week!

Change of Address

Friday, July 13, 2012

As I mentioned last week, there is a big announcement.................

We bought a house!
(which in the DC Metro area means a townhouse)

It's been a big week for us, from the closing, to packing, to painting... and this weekend we'll be moving all of the furniture!  The house needs some love (which is right up our alley), so get ready for lots of posts about home DIY.  We've already conquered removing popcorn ceiling in the master bedroom and we've only had the keys for 3 days!  Ultimately, after living in apartments for the past few years, we're really excited to own our first home and to finally be able to paint walls, have a reason to go to home improvement stores, and grill out!

Here's a few pictures from our week. Enjoy!

Box of Cards + Letters

Monday, July 9, 2012

While I was at my parent's house the other weekend, I came across a box filled with letters and cards. From notes passed in high school to cards given for holidays, the box was filled with tons of memories and joyous occasions.  As I sat on the floor and sorted through the pile of envelopes, it was easy to remember different events and times just by seeing the handwriting, a certain type of paper, or the image on a card.  It's moments like these that I realize how much I love handwritten notes! Yes, email has its purpose; however, I don't find it near as fun to sort through the 500+ emails from Justin that I have saved since high school. Unfortunately, the email subject isn't always accurate and there isn't any personality or distinction that helps you easily recognize what the email is about.  When it comes to writing people, I would much rather receive a handwritten note that I can stash away in my box. Besides, it's always fun to sit on the floor and thumb through all of the cards and letters that hold such special memories!

Okay... so this is my first time trying to document my week in photos and I must admit that I definitely need to use my camera more! I'm not typically the person who goes around snapping photos, so it will take a little big of adjustment.

Most of my pictures this week are from my trip to my hometown in southwest Virginia.  The week was a little different since we were traveling over the weekend, the power was out for 22 hours, and we didn't have internet at work for almost four days.  I wish I could say that next week won't be quite as eventful, but I'm pretty sure that won't be the case... come back next week for a big announcement on the blog. Until then, have a great weekend!
